'Idol' finalists joined the pop diva for an all-girl medley of B smash hits.

Who run the world? Girls!
The ladies of "American Idol" proved it during Wednesday's (May 25) season-closer when they performed a medley of Beyoncé hits, and were joined at the finish by Beyoncé herself.
The girls — Pia Toscano, Karen Rodriguez, Naima Adedapo, Ashthon Jones, Thia Megia and Haley Reinhart — hit the stage in various red-and-black ensembles and shared the stage during B's #1 smash "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)." Adedapo opened the song and threw some sass on it before passing the mic to Jones, the season's 13th-place finisher, who was eliminated during the first week of semifinals competition. The girls took their turns with the vocals and aped the familiar moves from the single's iconic video, which one rapper sort-of semi-famously referred to once as one of the greatest music videos of all time.
Megia and the frequently bilingual Rodriguez took center stage and duetted on "Irreplaceable," another #1 hit for Beyoncé, while the rest of the group chimed in on the "you must not know 'bout me" chorus. That transitioned into "Get Me Bodied," with each singer working the stage with maximum 'tude. "If I Were a Boy" was next, with the contestants sitting down on the side of the stage and Reinhart tackling the chorus with her big, growly vocals. Jones was also allowed to flex her muscles on the song, and Toscano soon took center stage as the song segued into "Déjà Vu." Toscano, frequently criticized during her "Idol" run for only attempting big, old-fashioned ballads, came off well during the uptempo song.
But then the Queen B herself hit the riser at the top of the stairs and showed the ladies a thing or two about being a diva. The big horns from "Crazy in Love," her first solo hit, signaled her arrival, and she hit the stage with an abundance of style and authority. She danced in a long line with the "Idol" ladies (and a few backup dancers to boot) and ran through a verse of the song, strutting across the stage and whipping her hair like a true star. The performance ended with the "Idol" gals wrapping their arms around Beyoncé in a big group hug, and without even performing her new single, Beyoncé showed that girls run the world, or at least the "Idol" stage.
Later in the show, Beyoncé returned to debut her new song, "One Plus One." She introduced the dramatic piano-led ballad as her "favorite" song, and sang it on a sparse, smoke-filled stage, dropping to her knees at one point and shaking hands with the fans gathered in front of her.

In recent years, Conaway was known for being treated by Dr. Drew on 'Celebrity Rehab.'
By Kara Warner
Troubled actor Jeff Conaway, star of TV and film classics "Taxi" and "Grease," has died. The 60-year-old actor passed away Friday morning (May 27) at the Encino Tarzana Medical Center, where he had been hospitalized in a coma since May 11.
E! Online reports that Conaway's family members, including his sister, decided Thursday to have doctors remove the feeding tube and ventilator that had been essentially keeping the actor alive. Conaway's longtime girlfriend, Vikki Lizzi, reportedly objected to the family's decision and went to court to try to block the move, but the family did not relent.
Conaway was found unconscious and was hospitalized following a suspected drug overdose that involved pain pills. Dr. Drew Pinsky, who worked with Conaway during his time on VH1's "Celebrity Rehab" to treat his drug and alcohol addictions, took to his Twitter account last week to refute claims that Conaway's condition was due to an overdose.
"Just visited Jeff Conaway," Pinsky tweeted. "He is stable & looks like he will recover from his pneumonia. Not an OD like press is alleging & certainly not dead."
Conaway's manager Phil Brock told The Associated Press that the actor was a "gentle soul" but one who has been unable to "exorcise his demons."
Conaway is perhaps best known for his portrayal of high school bad boy Kenickie in 1978's hit movie adaptation of the "Grease" musical, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. He also appeared in the Broadway version of "Grease" and played struggling actor Bobby in the sitcom "Taxi," alongside Danny DeVito and Tony Danza, from 1978 to 1981.
Share your thoughts for Conaway's friends and family in the comments.

Coldplay's new British stamps
Photo: Royal Mail
On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.
The albums featured in the new series are the Rolling Stones' Let It Bleed, Led Zeppelin's IV, David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, The Clash's London Calling, New Order's Power, Corruption and Lies, Primal Scream's Screamadelica, Pink Floyd's The Division Bell, Blur's Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head.
Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for IV — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery.
"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time."
Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their Rush of Blood stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date."
"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards
Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage
They say that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but on Sunday night, pop culture lovers everywhere were treated to a festival of debauchery and fun at the Billboard Music Awards, which were held in Sin City and broadcast live on ABC.
There were two kisses that will certainly have people talking for days. When Britney Spears took the stage with Rihanna for their sexy performance of "S&M," the two shared a kiss. Of course, Spears isn't new to onstage girl-on-girl lip-locks, having shared one with Madonna back in 2003. On Sunday, Spears also took the stage with Nicki Minaj, but no spit was swapped during that other girl-power performance.
Perhaps a more surprising kiss occurred when Justin Bieber kissed girlfriend Selena Gomez after it was announced that he won the award for Top New Artist. Although he didn't mention her name in his speech, according to Aceshowbiz.com, Bieber later praised his lady love in the press room, saying, "She's amazing." Bieber took home five other awards Sunday night.
Beyoncé, honored with the Millennium Award, received taped tributes from Bono, First Lady Michelle Obama, The-Dream, Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand and Lady Gaga. As memorable as her performance was thanks to some eye-catching visuals, killer dance moves and that barely there outfit, her shout-out to Jay-Z certainly stood out. "I love me some Jay-Z," she said, after calling him her "best friend."
Bey also thanked those who have been in Destiny's Child, including founding members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson as well as Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams; Rowland and Williams were in the crowd cheering their girl on.

Beyoncé performs on "The Oprah Winfrey Show"
Photo: Harpo productions
The first part of the two-part "Oprah Winfrey Show" star-studded surprise episode aired Monday (May 23), and with appearances from Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Halle Berry, Diane Sawyer and Madonna, it was Beyoncé and her over-the-top, girl-powered stage spectacle that had the audience — and Oprah — moving.
Donning a tuxedo bodysuit and surrounded by a cavalcade of all-female backup dancers, Beyoncé strutted her stuff as she performed her new single, "Run the World (Girls)."
"Oprah, your persuasion can build a nation," B said mid-song. "We love you, Oprah. Thank you," she told the talk-show host at the end of the performance, giving a hug to Winfrey.
Last week, MTV News spoke to Beyoncé's longtime choreographer, Frank Gatson Jr., who commented on the honor of performing for Oprah during her epic farewell week. (The final "Oprah Winfrey Show" episode airs Wednesday.)
"It's amazing. Me, myself, Beyoncé, people of color — we have so much respect for that woman" Gaston said. "How can we say no to [Oprah]? She possesses something that God has given her, 'cause when I saw her onstage, of all the people that were there, everyone's in awe of her — Tom Cruise, Halle Berry, Madonna — so we felt honored, privileged. That's why Beyoncé pushed us so hard. She wanted to make sure that Oprah's proud of what she did for her show. She did such an important number.
"In Oprah's world, women rule the world, so how coincidental that Beyoncé's song is called that?" he continued. "So it was just appropriate, perfection. I loved it. It was great to be there. The energy in that place was unbelievable."

Singer says her collaboration with Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj made a 'supergroup of three hot, strong women.'
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias
Earlier this week, Britney Spears, Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj dropped their femme-fatale-friendly remix of the Spears club track "Till the World Ends." The already fun song got super-charged thanks to Minaj's cutting verses and Ke$ha's recognizable vocals.
"I'm a massive fan of both the ladies I share the track with," K told MTV News on Wednesday at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards. "I wrote 'TTWE' for Britney with [producers] Dr. Luke and Max [Martin] and she killed it and I loved it, but I just thought a supergroup of three hot, strong women could just take over the airwaves."
Ke$ha went on to give props to both the ladies. "I'm such a massive fan of Britney and I'm such a massive supporter of Nicki and a fan, and chicks sometimes don't team up. I don't know why, but I'm, like, huge on the girl power, so I just wanted to make a power girl track take over."
The remix quickly won praise from fans who seem to think the new features step up the song's game. "You know, with the three of us, I wasn't necessarily surprised [people like it] because I'm such a massive fan of Nicki Minaj and obviously with Britney I'm a fan of it, [taking] myself out of the equation," she said. "I'm just happy people like it."
So did Ke$ha (who once sang backup for Spears) feel any pressure writing a song for Britney? "There was no pressure. Writing for somebody else is really fun 'cause I consider myself a songwriter first and foremost," she explained. "So it was so much fun to put my brain in the sexy Britney Spears brain and express myself almost as if I were possessed by her."

'We had to hide in a room where there were no windows,' she tells MTV News of Nashville shoot.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway
The video for "Story of Us" follows Taylor Swift's collegiate character as she falls in love in the stacks of her Ivy League library ... and falls very much out of love in the hallowed hallways of that same school.
Shot at Vanderbilt University near her home in Nashville, the video was complicated not by the tumultuous relationship, but instead by some very dangerous weather conditions.
"There were a few complications. This was actually when a bunch of tornadoes were hitting Nashville," she recalled in Tuesday's (May 24) chat with Sway during "We had to hide. All of us, we had to hide in a room where there were no windows, so that was a little bit crazy. [But] other than that, it was incredibly fun."
The video not only features one very good-looking guy, but also Swift's whole band in varying roles. Who got the best role? Her backup singer Liz Huett, who got to make out with Swift's love interest in the clip. And the story of Taylor and Liz is almost more interesting than the story of Swift and the boy who inspired the song and video.
"We met in a meet-and-greet line. I started out playing small bars and clubs a few years ago, and she came to one of the shows, and I would sign autographs ... and she waited three or four hours," Swift recalled. "And she came up and asked if she could sing for me. ... She sang for me, and [I said], 'You've got to audition for some TV talent show.' And I ran into her a few months later, and one thing led to another and she ended up being my backup singer on tour and making out with a guy in my video."

Then Ashley fake dies on stage and tells us that as she was recovering from her broken heart, she threw herself into her work as a dentist who wears adorable scrubs, and into leading a Jazzercise class in her spare time, and then doing the obligatory A-fighter-lives-in-Philly Rocky run up the stairs in a grey sweat suit and then punching the air. B's new clip debuted Wednesday night during 'American Idol.'
By James Montgomery
Beyonce in her "Run The World (Girls)" music video
Photo: Columbia
As if solo singles like "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Diva" and Destiny's Child's "Independent Women" didn't alert you, Beyoncé works the female-empowerment angle hard. But in case you missed the message the first (half-dozen) times, she's taking no chances with new single "Run the World (Girls)," which hammers the point home with all the subtlety of a jackhammer. It is, for all intents and purposes, a pneumatically powered anthem for the ladies.
And the video for the song, which premiered Wednesday night (May 18) during "American Idol," is no different. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the video transports B to Africa, where she leads a ragtag army of females into battle against the forces of the Y chromosome, who seem none too impressed with her (many) gyrations, or her reappropriations of gender stereotypes, including the owning of hyenas as pets and the whole concept of a warrior chief.
But perhaps it's reading too much into things to assign sexual politics to the video's visuals (though it's certainly an interesting practice), since, really, "(Girls)" is a lot like most Beyoncé clips: a big, brash thing, full of elaborate, hip-displacing dance routines, haute-couture costuming, wide-screen cinematography and expensive-looking sets. Fans may be divided about the song itself — it's definitely a departure, borrowing heavily from Major Lazer's rattling "Pon de Floor" and dancehall riddims in general — but they will certainly have no issue with the video. Not if they've followed her entire career, that is.
It remains to be seen if the rest of Beyoncé's upcoming 4 album will follow in the footsteps of "Run the World" or if she'll pull things back a bit with each successive single. Regardless, with her new clip, the Queen B returns to claim her throne. She certainly knows how to make a big-time video and how to drive her message home — subtlety be damned.

Gaga dishes about her album in a lengthy interview in the Metro newspaper.

In one week, Lady Gaga finally releases Born This Way, which she once touted as "the greatest album of this decade." In a new interview with the Metro newspaper, Lady Gaga opens up a bit more about what this album means.
"Born This Way is my answer to many questions over the years: Who are you? What are you about? ... The most paramount theme on the record is me struggling to understand how I can exist as myself as someone who lives halfway between fantasy and reality all the time," she explained in the lengthy chat.
When asked if she uses her personality to market her music, she said, "It's kind of like saying, 'Are you honest? Do you have integrity? Are you full of sh--?' But listen, my social involvement for equality and gay rights, as well as my music, is completely genuine. But I don't think I ever want everyone to ever know fully who or what I am."
Gaga further discussed her personal goals and motivations. "Part of what I'm doing is asking you to look inside yourself, to ask yourself questions," she maintained. "I have a close relationship with my family. I'm very close with my fans and I'm in tune with what they want. And I'm in tune with myself, too. At the end of the day, I have to look myself in the mirror and I'm proud of everything I stand for. I have no reason to do or say anything unless it comes from my soul. I work very hard. I don't party very much. You don't see me falling out of nightclubs and buying Range Rovers. Social justice and music are the two most paramount things in my life and I can't put it more plainly."
In other Gaga news, Metro.co.uk will stream all 14 songs on Born This Way starting on Wednesday in anticipation of the album's official release next week. Meanwhile, Gaga visited the London offices of Metro on Monday, where she served as guest editor of the newspaper.
"Dear monsters, let your identity be your religion," wrote Gaga. "Little monsters are not a fan base. They are a culture that exists entirely outside of pop music. They are their own religion. They are a race within the race of humanity."

'I've listened to their music since I was a child,' says the R&B diva, who recorded 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love.'
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Larry Carroll
You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.
In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven," working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.
But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine.
"I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' — it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun."
Blige also said she recorded another new song — a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" — for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.
"I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will not be using his former movie star career to hide from his recent love-child scandal and split from Maria Shriver. According to the former Governor's lawyer, the Terminator star has backed out of all his scheduled acting gigs.
"At the request of Arnold Schwarzenegger we asked Creative Artists Agency to inform all his motion picture projects currently underway or being negotiated to stop planning until further notice," the attorney told Us Weekly.
"Governor Schwarzenegger is focusing on personal matters and is not willing to commit to any production schedules or timelines. This includes Cry Macho, The Terminator franchise and other projects under consideration. We will resume discussions when Governor Schwarzenegger decides."
Probably not a bad idea, since he's got plenty of real-life damage control to do. As the news broke this week that Schwarzenegger had an affair with a former housekeeper, which resulted in a son, the actor/politician, 63, released a statement expressing his remorse for hurting his loved ones.
"I fully deserve these feelings of anger and disappointment of friends and family. I have no excuse and I take full responsibility," he lamented. "I ask that the media to respect my wife and children in this extremely difficult period. I deserve your attention and criticism, but my family does not deserve this."
According to reports, Shriver has hired a high-powered divorce lawyer, which leads us to believe Schwarzenegger's problems are just beginning.

'It's not an urban legend ... this is happening,' Slaughterhouse's Joe Budden told 'RapFix Live' about the supergroup's upcoming album.
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway
When Eminem co-signs you, expectations will run high. With the ink dry on their Shady Records contract, hip-hop supergroup Slaughterhouse are hard at work on their first LP to be released via Em's label. On Wednesday, Royce da 5'9", Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I appeared on "RapFix Live" and talked to Sway about the progress of their as-yet-untitled album.
"It's not an urban legend, though, this is happening. This is really taking place," Joe Budden told Sway from the set of Bad Meets Evil's "Fast Lane" video in Detroit.
In 2009, Slaughterhouse released their self-titled debut on indie label E1 Music. The LP was recorded in a rush and still was met with critical acclaim. Now that the collective is in a major-label setting, the expectations are higher — a notion not lost on the group. "We're just getting started, we're not gonna rush it," said Royce. "We were behind the eight ball with the last album — we had to get it done in six days. Just having the opportunity where time is not an issue, budget is not an issue — we just gonna go in there and knock it out."
Having Eminem's guidance is also a plus. "I run everything by him, just 'cause I trust his ear. And he has OCD, so I know he'll nitpick my song apart," Royce told Sway. "So even with my solo stuff, anything I do, I try to run by him. So he is kinda like our A&R I guess."
The chemistry between the quartet's members seems to be intact. Even when the rest of Slaughterhouse are giving Budden a ribbing for his controversial song leak "Ordinary Love Sh-- Pt. 3," there are no hard feelings. "They unconditionally love me, these guys. I don't care what they say," Budden said.
As far as when the new album will release, the group is hoping for a fourth-quarter drop. "If I had a wish list, I would love somewhere around Christmas," Royce said, with all of his bandmates in agreement.

News broke on Tuesday that Arnold Schwarzenegger had fathered a child more than 10 years ago with a former member of his household staff -- and it was that revelation that had caused his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver, to move out of their home. Now multiple reports claim that the identity of the other woman has been uncovered.
Radar Online reports that 50-year-old Mildred Baena is the mother of Schwarzenegger's love child. "She's the one," one inside source says.
Baena worked for Schwarzenegger, 63, and Shriver, 50, as a housekeeper and assistant for 20 years, cooking and cleaning for the power couple. According to TMZ, she made $1,200 a week and was always treated well by the actor-turned-politician. Their affair began in the late '90s and always took place at the Schwarzenegger home. Baena retired in January of this year -- the same month that Schwarzenegger stepped down from his post as governor of California and told Shriver about his affair.
Baena spoke to The L.A. Times on Monday without revealing her identity, as news of the scandal began to break. "I wanted to achieve my 20 years, then I asked to retire," she said.
The child -- who is now believed to be as old as 14, according to the The New York Times -- was born before Schwarzenegger began his stint as governor. And although Baena did not initially reveal to Schwarzenegger that the child was his, eventually the truth came out. The secret was kept from Shriver and the rest of the household staff.
Baena now lives outside Los Angeles in a four-bedroom home with the boy (whose name has not been revealed) and her three other children.
Schwarzenegger has four other children with Shriver, ages 14 to 21. Before the scandal broke, he had been reportedly planning to re-start his movie career with another Terminator film.
